The Foundation held a virtual convening on March 1, 2024 to explore what we know about 988, with the goal of addressing cutting-edge research and data about 988 in order to decriminalize mental illness and inform the continued efforts to build a robust and human-centered crisis care continuum across the nation. We were honored to host speakers Stephanie Brooks Holliday, PhD, Senior Behavioral Scientist of RAND; Daniel Fichter, Founder of CrisisCrowd; Monica S. Johnson, MA, LPC, Director of SAMHSA 988 and Behavioral Health Crisis Coordinating Office; and Ted Lutterman, Senior Director of Government & Commercial Research of NRI; moderated by Eric Rafla-Yuan, MD, 988 Accessibility and Equity Working Group Chair and California Office of Emergency Services.
